abstract
in order to increase the knowledge of saurida tumbil biology and ecology, an investigation of food habits of this species was conducted from october 2010 to september 2011 in bushehr coastal waters, persian gulf. 485 fish stomach contents were studied. in this study the frequency of occurrence of prey, feeding intensity index, the index is empty stomachs, the mean trophic levels and the rate of food consumption was calculated. total three major taxonomic categories were identified in the stomach contents of this species and were weighted including arthropods (crustaceans higher crustaceans), mollusks (cephalopod) and teleostei and the results show that teleostei was the most abundant prey item which including the family carangidae, nemipteridae, synodontidae, mullidae, sphyraenidae, leiognathidae , haemulinae and trichiuridae. the results showed that the highest intensity of feeding occurs in the fall and lowest in summer. s. tumbil also shows cannibalistic behavior in ecosystem. the mean trophic level for s. tumbil was estimated 4.64 for the first time in persian gulf, indicating that s.tumbil is largely carnivore and has a high rate of food consumption.

This paper is a comprehensive study of the shrimp trawl by- catch from Bushehr coastal waters (N. Persian Gulf). Sampling operation was carried out in two shrimp fishing seasons using the (Saber and Jahanara) commercial trawlers Generally, 87.5% of the total catch was by-catch and 12.5% was target species (shrimp). The catch composition included: 114 species from 45 teleostei families, 13 speci...

This study was conducted to determine density and distribution of commercial fishes (Argyrops spinifer- Carangoindes talamparoides and Saurdia tumbil) by swept area method in Persian Gulf waters (Busher province). Sampling operation (27 hauls) was done by a trawler (Tabas class) with long 26 m and width 7.4 m in fishing season. Midwater trawl ned had a 72 m head rope and mesh sizes were 400 mm...

This paper reports on the results of a trawls survey in 2011 to assess the amount of biomass and Catch Per Unit of Area (CPUA) as well as to determine the distribution pattern of Synodontidae family of demersal fishes (with emphasize on great lizardfish, Saurida tumbil) as one of the most important and commercial fish species in the northwest of the Persian Gulf. Samples were collected fr...

Diet of kingfish was examined in the Iranian coastal waters in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea during the year 2005-08. With the examination of 1655 kingfish stomachs caught by drifting gillnets, it was revealed that this species fed three groups of preys including fish, Cephalopods, and Crustaceans, of which the fish group accounted for the highest in the frequency of number (99.3%) and in the f...

Macrobenthos are benthic animals that live in or on the bottom sediments which used as a bioindicators to assess the presence of contaminants, in natural aquatic systems. This study aimed to achieve the relationship between sediment composition and macrobenthic communities, distribution. Sampling was done monthly in 2011-12 by a powerboat, and VanVeen grab with 0.04 cross section, were used for...
